“A Better Super Bowl” by Hyundai

Do you have family members or friends who are or were in the military? How do you think about it when they can't stay with you or their families because of their duties. There is no doubt that no matter what countries we are from, our men and women in our country sacrifice their happiness to protect us and allow us to go to bed and wake up in a safe country. Since most of the people may have a grateful feeling on the military, during the Super Bowl night, Hyundai published their ad about the troop in the 4th infantry division of the U.S. Military in Zagan, Poland.  Here's the ad:

I'd like to talk about the content of this ad, firstly. Since everyone may want to watch games with close friends, and families, Hyundai chose a group of people who can’t go back home and stay with their families. They are soldiers. Choosing military is kind of playing on viewers’ sympathy. Because people will feel sorry for soldiers’ situation and feel touching by what Hyundai brought to the soldiers, a better Super Bowl with their families. And at end of the commercial, some words showed up that “Better Drives Us, Hyundai.” By doing this, the commercial connects the word “Better” with “Hyundai” cohesively.

And for only a few days, there are 25,794,966 views. Besides, most of the comments are positive. Most viewers said that this commercial was so touching that they cried a lot. I cried also when I watched it. Using the live way to shot a "documentary" makes this commercial so real that viewers can easily be led into the context. People who even isn't Hyundai owners will definitely be moved by this brand.

Facebook and Twitter:

Hyundai uses a photo, which has several cucoloris of soldiers as a background photo for the home pages of its Facebook and Twitter. Besides, the first posts on both Facebook and Twitter are both this video. It said that these troops couldn't come home for Super Bowl LI, so we brought home to them.

Let's have a look at viewers' comments on its Facebook. What we should notice is that Hyundai really pays a lot attention on listening their consumers' voices. It almost replied to every comments on this post. What's more, Hyundai didn't just reply to their customers like it is perfunctory. As you can see, the responses show that Hyundai read everyone's comment carefully. For example, one of the comment is that she wants to see if there are some photos of her son, who is in this troop. Hyundai replied and told her where to find more photos. How significant this is for a company in order to survive in today's groundswell

Then you must be curious about the effects Hyundai made during these days. The interest on searching "Hyundai Super Bowl 2017 Commercial" can be shown in the graph below, clearly. This commercial does have a strong effect from Feb 5th to Feb 9th.

During the Super Bowl period, Hyundai used this "documentary" to advertise itself, and all it did is to combine some other social media, like Facebook and Twitter, to post this ad. Turns out, no matter what technology you are using, as long as you can take advantage of groundswell, you've won fifty percent.

  1. Dear Zijun,
After reading your blog, I felt so touched. People always show highly respect to soldiers because they sacrifice themselves to protect citizens' safety. Hyundai connected Super Bowl with soldiers making this advertisement successful. Besides, Hyundai took advantage of social media to promote this event, which did benefit to improve their brand image. It's a fascinating blog. Thank you for your sharing.
